Warranties are one of those things you never think about until you need them. If you notice defects in your Coolwall system (paint bubbling, chipping, etc.), you may be wondering if the Tex-Cote Coolwall warranty covers you. It’s important to get this corrected because defects can decrease the product’s effectiveness and make your house look unappealing. To determine if you’re covered or not, let’s take a look at what their warranty entails.
The Tex-Cote Warranty
Good news, you’re covered for life! The Tex-Cote Coolwall manufacturer’s warranty covers homeowners for the lifetime they own the home, including a 5-year labor warranty. The warranty applies to paint that is flaking, chipping, or peeling from the surface. For any defects in the product, Tex-Cote will replace the material free of charge. The lifetime warranty is even transferrable to a new homeowner one time within three years of the date of application. Note that it only covers products that were applied to the manufacturer’s specifications. Remember, like all warranties, there will be some exclusions. Here are some scenarios where the warranty doesn’t apply:
- Damage resulting from settling of the building, cracking, roof leaks, significant building movement, natural disasters (ex. flood, hurricane, earthquake, wind storms, tornado, hail), efflorescence, and mechanical or external physical causes
- The warranty does not include the application of any Tex-Cote product to wood-fiber composite hardboard siding
- It excludes new construction, condominiums, apartments, multi-unit dwellings, and commercial buildings
- The warranty does not cover paint applied to fascia boards, entry doors, exit doors, garage doors, trim, and any moveable surface
Improper Installation of Tex-Cote Coolwall
An important topic we want to cover is the improper application of Tex-Cote Coolwall. Their warranty states that “Textured Coatings of America, Inc. shall not be responsible for the improper preparation of the surface including, but not limited to, failure to remove old layers of paint, sand, scrape and/or replace all rotted wood prior to the application of any Tex-Cote® product.” Essentially, Tex-Cote doesn’t cover problems that result from improper preparation, and the fault lies with the contractor who applied it. Fortunately, you can avoid this problem!
Choosing a Certified Installer
A common occurrence we see is when homeowners have a newer construction company apply their Coolwall system. While this may not seem like a problem, running a business long-term is difficult, and these newer companies may close up shop after a couple of years. If they misapplied the system, then close down, homeowners are left with a failing Tex-Cote job and no one to fix it. For this reason, you must find a company, like Select Home Improvements, that is certified through Textured Coatings of America. Certified installers need to pass a background check and complete a course on the proper Tex-Cote application techniques. Since a certified installer will properly apply the Tex-Cote system, the warranty will cover you even if the construction company goes out of business.
